Dark Days of Recession

Eating less but costing more
medical bills higher than before
house not warm the price higher
if I said doesn't hurt, I'd be a liar.

Trying to cook like mother did
more water in beans, filled to the lid
can't eat out or take vacations now
we will all make it some how.

Roof over heads to be thankful for
others in need not able to ignore
using less water, don't waste a drop
wondering when the war will ever stop.

Worry worry hard times is all we hear
so much is wrong, so much to fear
checking the flyers, clipping coupons too
seeking new ways to help make do.

Turning off lights not using today
wearing more clothes keep cold away.
eat bologna not steak much cheaper
enjoying friends who are a keeper.

The old truck needs paint that's okay
used for fishing doesn't need bright array
car getting old, still runs real good
soon be paid for things go as they should.

Don't spend money on tobacco or alcohol, bad
quit those habits now don't follow the fad
being thrifty in everything all these days
had to change a lot of careless ways.

Wishing I had been this careful before
wishing dark days of recession will be no more
finding new faith, trusting God and adore
try with others to have better rapport.
