I Think I Finally Heard You

I thought I heard you.

Just for a moment, I swear I could hear you,
A persistent, gentled voice,
Coming out of the shadowed fog

And you were telling me
That giving up
Was not an option.

I could hear you telling me how I was making it seem
Like it was nothing but a distant dream,
A convoluted conglomeration of pieces
That simply wouldn't dance
On my empty screen

I tried to tell you how the house went silent,
Except for the ticking of the clock
A click of the door, that wouldn’t unlock,
And the painful sound of an unheard scream

Yet, still you kept trying to tell me,
But I wasn’t listening
I was too busy dabbling on blank pages
Inscribed in invisible ink

But then you told me how I should just go along
With the purity of the song

And in the end, I heard you.
And what I heard…Was this,

I heard a moment shared…

A treasured moment shared, with the voice of a friend

And now,
Wherever you are,
I want you to know that I agree...

Giving up is NOT an option.

And I’m thanking you, dear friend,
For calling out my name,
Yet again
