Herding the Words

Floating in the mist that makes up dreams
Suspended for hours on end
Conjuring grandiose plans and schemes
Mixing up a colorful blend

Ideas swiftly abound in atmosphere so rare
Eyes twinkle while skin glistens
Running lines stamped with creative flair
As the muse perks up and listens

Reaching for feelings to place on the page
Sorting words like a bargain shopper
Beats and meter weighed by internal gauge
So the tempo will border on proper.

Images dart in and out, out and in
All seeking an acknowledgement nod
Whether it’s describing moments of sin
Or absolution from a benevolent God

Gathering and culling words all askew
Imbuing each with a spirited meaning
Fine-tuning members of this grammatical crew
So they stand tall with a poetic leaning.
