House Husband

Why have I been here to greet you at the door
when you come dragging home from work.
Serving you dinner with a hug and what’s more,
these are privileges, not duties, I’d never shirk.

Welcome home baby

Why do I swallow hard when you hit a raw nerve
because I know just how reactionary I can be?
I don’t take any swings, I never could hit a curve,
a calm man tends to be much better company.

I heard that dear

Why have I been here for thirty-one patient years
seldom looking for a good reason to flee?
The answer’s not tough when seen through happy tears
I was here then and now all because you loved me.

Color me lucky and content
