Homework Blues
I've figured out just what to do
to bring out a smile or two.
I hope this poem will work for you.
I'll tell you a little story
that's as true as my name's Dory.
(I just hope you won't be sorry!)
(Yes, it happened just this way.)
My son came home from school one day
and this is what he had to say.
My teacher's MEAN! She picks on me!
My teacher's mean as she can be!
She has some problem, don't you see?
(No giggles, no wiggles
allowed in her class
No shirking your work
or you will NOT pass.)
Blackboards are her favourite places
and as she's filling in the spaces,
she's enjoying our blank faces.
Just because I forgot to do
a couple things I was supposed to...
She's stricter Mom than even you!
She's so mean, it isn't right
to give us homework EVERY night
and she does it just for spite!'
Silently I nodded my head
considering the things he's said
and what he hadn't said instead.
(With no real clue on what to do
I had to take a moment or two
to really think this problem through.)
'If I've heard you right, dear son,
you didn't get your homework done.
What's your excuse or is there one?'
In hoping that these words would work
I stopped speaking and let them perk
and rubbed my mouth to hide the smirk.
'I have the time, there's no excuse
that I could think to ever use.
I'm suffering from homework blues.
Although I think she is a jerk
and likes to drive our class berserk.
Alright! OK! I'll do this work!'
