Mearnsey's Obsession
I'm just a little bit worried now,
about Mearnsey,
our little bird.
She has the freedom of the house
but sits in her cage,
it's absurd!
She's obsessed
with the bird in her mirror
and flirts with it all the long day.
I'm sure she'd get by
without eating
if her image
would come out to play.
She only vacates her own premises
when her cage is getting a clean;
then she sits on the blades
of the ceiling fan,
watching, in case we get mean.
If the one who is cleaning the cage out,
the mirror just happens to touch,
she flies off the fan and onto their heads,
protesting and fussing so much!
For a budgie, our Mearnsey's amazing
(though I wish she would learn how to sing).
My pet's obsession with her image
seems a normal
and quite human thing.
