I Shall Secret the Closet Key
If I opened myself up
to scrutiny
and laid it all on the line.
If I shared things from my past
I’m not proud of,
would you think less of me?
Would my truths shatter
an image
that you may have conjured
in your mind?
Is it possible for one
to live up to
the expectations others
have drawn?
As a man I have
experienced many things.
some that you
could never understand.
I’ve brought no harm to anyone
that I know of,
yet I wonder,
would you think less of me.
This is not the time
or the place
to bare my soul,
though it may be cathartic.
Curiosity can lead us
in many directions,
while tasting different fruits
may be stigmatic.
These experiences and extremes
have formed
the person I am,
there can be no doubt.
The rattle of skeletons
will remain closeted to insure
there’s no chance
you would think less of me.
