Don’t Tell Her She’s Special
You have a self-effacing
manner about you
that seeks to deflect
honors sent your way.
Your special door many
have walked through
in distress, addicted and
cast in total dismay.
You serve your leader
without question or gripe,
for you know he
is the way and the life.
Each stray that you
willingly take in feels no hype,
your special,
not their mother or their wife.
The good book in hand
you sit with them on end,
showing another way
to conduct themselves.
For honest assessment,
on you they can depend
and there’s no booze or
drugs upon the shelves.
I’m sure in the parts
where you do your work
you are known affectionately
by your name.
Even in the blackest of nights
you never shirk,
still self-effacing
but you shall live by fame.
