FAMILY REUNION
Every year come August
we all head for Hapgood Pond
to share with those still living
and remember those now gone.
It’s the big family reunion
and folks come from far and near
to share family time together
‘though it’s only once a year.
We’re a large family together;
our bond of love unbroken,
each cherished for just who we are;
no unkind word is spoken.
We speak of those no longer with us,
Tell those family tales we know
about the loved ones past away,
lives faded long ago
like the flower once was blooming
that has shed its seed
as we smile and hug the fruit of them,
those left; that’s you and me.
Each year to the family reunion
come those so loved and dear
out of duty; more desire to see
the folks that gather here
at Hapgood Pond each August,
coming from far and near
to share our lives, our hopes and dreams
and the memories we hold dear;
And every year it happens
ss we gather by the pond,
we get a boost of loyalty and love
and we remember those now gone
and how we really miss them;
the treasure memory gives,
and all the giving that they gave
so our lives we may live.
It’s a family tradition,
getting together at the pond
and one I hope keeps happening,
always will go on.
Now we’re spread out across the Nation.
We’re busy, the world has changed
but each year come August
reminds us each the same,
we’re family, individuals, all
but family we’ll remain;
a whole family together;
with our bond of love unbroken,
each cherished for just who we are;
no unkind word is spoken.
It’s a time of fun and laughter,
of fresh air, good food and sun
and each year I look forward
to seeing everyone.
