My Home Town

In my delightful small hometown
where I spent most of my childhood days,
there were always friendly neighbors around
with their warm country loving ways.

In the little white church I can remember,
a very warm and cheerful greeting,
I received from each and every member
every time I attended a church meeting

Although quite a distance I had to walk
to school from first grade through,
I was pleased to attend, I didn't mind
seemed the years really flew.

There was not very much to entertain,
in this small out of the way place,
not much to look forward to or gain,
never could see a new face.

I wanted to leave, see what life brings,
where excitement could be found.
After going to other places, seeing many things
I dreamed of West Virginia where blessings abound.

I didn't find the friendliness or the country style
that I had grown to love, enjoy and expect.
Nor the quite relaxed ways faces wearing a smile
as they passed showing their respect.

In my new West Virginia hometown I found the thrill
I was always searching for and couldn't find.
No heavy congested traffic or pressure of the will,
just peace and contentment of the mind.

There's beautiful mountains, streams and country pride,
also fresh air to breathe, many flowers and trees to see,
more of God's creation can be found in fields so wide,
no other place on earth I'd rather be.
