AMBER'S STORY

(scroll down then up for midi to play)
The day that I first saw you
You took my breath away
I knew right then that you were mine
You would not be given away
You were almost orange
You barely filled my hand
Just precious as a little bundle
You did not understand
You had to be with Mama some
But I made sure that you were safe
I named you little Amber
That gentle precious little face.
Finally you got big enough
I could take you from the pack
I had seen other ones that died
Cause some animals will attack.
Just a little baby girl
Never would hurt a flea
But you had a lot of spunk
And used most of it on me
It seemed you'd last forever
Yet I knew your time was sparse
But I could not bear losing you
It took you to fill this house
For weeks you layed by the sliding door
You could see some cats and squrrels
And watch the rain and trees that blow
Our precious sick poor baby girl.
You were full blooded poodle girl
And you knew you were good
You didn't even want to talk
To others in the neighborhood.
You had your little Sassy girl
Who you tried hard to ignore
But she just wouldn't let you
She'd always beat you to the door
I don't recall a single fight
I think you both just knew
That you were loved just the same
Well, that's what we tried to do.
I had not left the house in weeks
I tried hard to not leave you my sweet
I knew you'd grieve while I was gone
I wished I could come back up the street
This past week I had to leave you some
For an hour, two maybe three
And you'd be waiting by the door
So glad that it was me
I gave you your medicine and
Told you to be a real good girl
And Sassy knew to watch out for you
She took it seriously for sure.
I guess I had been gone four hours
Richard and Rebbeca's wedding
Such a blessed event it was
And a little celebrating
Well, I got home - unlocked, came in
Sassy met me at the door
But you could not raise your head
Just hanging off your bed to floor.
I knew that you were stroking
You'd done it a few other times
I grabbed you up with dropper
Gave you water as it helped sometimes
Your little heart was still beating
I think you waited patiently
For mama to come home to you
Just one more time to see.
Oh, little one, I cried and
screamed
I begged you not to go
But I guess it was your time
God always seems to know
I held you and I rocked you
I cut some of your hair a bit
You had been so sick so long
There never seemed time for it
So mama made you look so sweet
Sprayed you with your cologne
Put my orchid from the wedding
For that was where it belonged
I wrapped you in your favorite basket
Put you on the table for the night
And poor, poor little Sassy
You could tell it had to fright
I kept telling her that you were gone
But we'd see you again one day
For surely God's got a special place
Where you can run and play
And so just as we do each night
We went to bed to sleep
Yet no little Amber in there
She was in the living room asleep
Oh, little girl, my precious love
What am I going to do
Some would see a little dog
Cause they did not know you.
I lost a very special friend,
A big part of my heart
I have not a clue how to go on
But with God's help I will start
Well, morning came and sun rise
And I knew that it was time
I took another look at you
One that would be just mine.
Even though your Daddy didn't live here
He said he'd come when I called last night
He brought the perfect little casket
And I tucked you safely in just right
Dad made a special place for you
Your right outside below my bed
Right below the window. sweet
And Angels will watch o'er head
Dad put a couple of stones we had
That topped your grave just right
I placed my angel on the top
She'll make sure your not alone at night
So, yesterday I had you
Today you're already gone
My precious little Amber
I know your spirits flown
I thank the Lord for sharing you
With us for 13 years
Now you will not suffer so
You've nothing more to fear.
Oh yes, I had a precious child
Her name was Amber Ray
She will always be loved, remembered
Yes, we buried Amber Ray today
