Footsteps

Smiling as I hear
The first whispers
Of your familiar footsteps
Moving swiftly down the hall

My heart beating
In the rhythmic gait
Of your familiar footsteps
Anxiously headed toward desire

Thoughts reflecting
Upon the journey
Of your familiar footsteps
Echoing so long from far away

Once wondering
In the absence
Of your familiar footsteps
Asking was it worth it, worth the wait

Distance fading
With the approach
Of your familiar footsteps
Smiling in the doorway of our boudoir

Breathlessly welcoming
The sensuous caress
Of your familiar fingertips
Knowing I'd have waited forever for this
