THE OLD PORCH SWING

scroll down then up for midi to play

Just as she felt she was sound asleep
There was a noise that seemed close by
Opened her eyes, slipped on her robe
Slowly checking out the reason...why

Checked all crannies and every nook
She didn't see a single thing...
Then she noticed out the window
On her porch..the swing was swinging

Didn't seem to be any wind
The night was still though dark
The flame flickered on the candle
Checking there was not a spark...

Everything seemed quiet
All that she could even see
The old porch swing on the porch
As it rocked in the night...empty

So many years she had rocked there
With parents, with all her family
She began to wonder back in time
Who would want to come back..to me

She thought of those gone on ahead
So many she would love to see
Yet they had been gone for so long
It doesn't make sense...said she

Well swing it would; and swing it did
On into the dark and lonely night
She sat in her chair and watched it
Never even turning on the light...

.

When morning came and she awoke
For she'd gone to sleep in the chair
The old porch swing was standing still
Still not a gentle breeze of air....

Sometimes in life we find that things
Have no true answer ... and yet
In God's eyes...we know that they do
It was a night she will never forget

the flame flickered no more......
