i entrust my heart

artwork by jennifer turner-terry 'golden aroma'

quotidian tasks often find me
stumbling over innumerable “shoulds”
as i trudge through the detritus of life

sometimes browbeaten by dreams
threatening to unravel
yet i lumber on

you watch me silently
eloquent in your restraint
utterly authentic with your intent

with unblinking vigilance
i do strip away unnecessary rhetoric
get down to the essentials

before the calendar heralds its arrival
the vibrating heat of summer
drones on like an epic poem

but you are there to listen
stepping through the thicket
into the poetry of me

you offer your hand to me
(my personal wonder of the world)
so it is to you i entrust my heart
