YOU!- The Faces of Abuse

Photobucket

You were….
anyone, everyone, someone
I knew, didn’t know, was entrusted to, lived with, sat next to,
a friend of a friend, a relative, a stranger, a parent, a spouse, a neighbor,
a transient

You were ….
every race, any race, all races
clean, dirty, unshaven,shaven

You looked like…
my dad
the one I’d hadn’t met
the one who didn’t want me

You were….
15, 17, male, female, middle-aged, an old man,
a system that failed me
Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Baptist
any, every, and all
religions

You were supposed to….
protect me, love me, guide me, nurture me, clothe me, feed me,
LEAVE ME ALONE!

You were married, single, divorced, separated,
SICK!

You took me for ice cream, out to the movies, protected me from a killer,
smiled at me, laughed with me, put fear into me,
threatened my family

And then....
you took what you wanted

I was
innocent
scared
a witness
ALONE!
I am STILL alone!

I was two, three, four, seven, eight,
NINE,
NINE,
NINE,
Thirteen,
80x80 Pictures, Images and Photos
Nineteen

I am a prisoner to….
nightmares, flashbacks, smells, sounds, visual images,
the night

It gives
warning
no warning
Sometimes....
IT’S JUST THERE!

The scars
invisible and visible
I pretend it doesn’t exist
It never happened
Put up a front
Hide from it
FIGHT IT!

You ARE….
everywhere, everyone, anyone, someone
NO ONE
that I care to remember

And I ask,
'NOW, who can I turn to?'
