I Saw the Sunrise

Photobucket

When pink ice cream came in double scoops
and there were castles in my sandbox
when tricycles held colored streamers
and my skates sailed down the sidewalks

I loved to look up at the sky
and see there my guiding lights
for sunbeams shone with joy by day
and moonbeams softly glowed at night

In the mornings I saw the sunrise
when Daddy came down the stairs
He'd wink at me with a big smile
and bright lights danced in the air

In the evenings I watched the moon rise
when Mommy laughed and hugged me tight
Her touch was filled with tenderness
and she made sure all was right

Dad taught me how to sail red kites
on fields of glorious green
Mom held me close and read me books
and taught me to cherish dreams

When it was time to go to bed
time to close my sleepy eyes
they heard my prayers and kissed me
and loving lights shone in the skies.
