Memories Of My Dad

So much time has gone by now
since the passing of my dad
old memories some how escape me
because many of them were sad

++++++++++++++++++++++++

When I try to remember my father
being very strict comes to mind
restricted to do what my friends did
but he was always loving and kind

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Many times I still feel regret
that he was over protective of me
but I remember he was generous
he loved me, a fact I now can see

++++++++++++++++++++++++

He raised me to be a gentle lady
curse words before me were not said
I wanted to go out and be a normal kid
but I was always obedient instead

++++++++++++++++++++++++

He was always getting sick
more times than I care to remember
I would often read the Bible to him
he died in 1956 on a cold day in December

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Some form of illness claimed his mind
he changed from the dad that I once knew
but our love for each other was always there
some how we managed to make it through

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Because of the many years he was sick
things were tough for us back then
we were poor by the standards of today
but in my eyes, he was the greatest of men

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

This fathers day I'm remembering you dad
I wish you were here with me today
I would have so much to tell you
so much has taken place, since you went away

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

One day I'll walk the golden streets
and I'll see you standing there
your little girl will rush to you
and join you in Holy prayer
