Remembering Yesterdays

Here comes July
Stepping out of the shadows
Of a wobbling, weary June
Lingering in thoughtful repose
‘Neath some warm Arizona Moon

~~~~~~~*******~~~~~~~
Sweltering heat for breakfast
A sauna scheduled for lunch
You can have the hot tamales
In fact, keep the whole darn bunch
Habanera chili sauce dipped
Scorching the burning tongue
The last time my lips were burned
Twas when I was very young
Loretta Moore was her sweet name
Her smile like sunshine’s eye
She giggled and wiggled perpetually
Her favorite question was: “Why”?
A summer love of freckled fun
And laughter filled with glee
I wonder if she remembers-
Just what she meant to me ?
Sometimes I feel like
Stepping out of the shadows-
And remembering yesterdays freckles
