A Soldiers 4th

SultryRose's Signatures

Today, it your birthday
America the brave
May you last until forever
Stars and stripes still freely wave

Out here in these old mountains
It ain’t easy to breath free
For from every cave and mountain face
The enemy sees me

I’m a young American soldier
Here in Afghanistan
Fighting to bring freedom
To this troubled foreign land

Back home they’re eating hot dogs
Drinking cokes with apple pie
While I creep through mountain passes
Afraid I’m gonna die

God knows I love my country
I would die to keep her free
But the unrest in this country
Doesn’t mean that much to me

The gunfights …they are constant
Mortar shells, like rain they fall
Sometimes I have to wonder
Will I make it home at all

The song God Bless America
Just keeps running in my head
Until I yearn to go back home
With every word that’s said

To taste cold beer …see ballgames
Watch fireworks burst for me
Walk a road…sit by a river
In America the free

Now, I’m trapped here in this country
Till my tour of duty’s done
Just a scared young lonely soldier
America’s own son

So happy birthday, homeland
Please say a prayer for me
Maybe next year I can be there
With those I long to see

Go, celebrate your birthday
Having fun and breathing free
But this year while you party
Won’t you please remember me!
