The Cliffs of Forever

artwork by christophe vacher 'expectations'

I offer my words
you tongue the sweetness from them
lapping vowels and consonants
as no one before

Fragments of thought
         holding my deepest emotions
are swallowed
allowing my colors to blend
into yours

You hold me
         long and easy
like a soprano’s high note
that never quite ends
its echo tickling the audience
on the cliffs of forever

That’s why
         mon amour
it will be forever you
