Cross or Burn?

Which bridge to cross?
Which bridge to burn?
Instructions are supposed to be fool-proof
but the lesson seems hard to learn.

Though a bridge over troubled waters
will make you cautious to cross;
burn not that bridge in frustration,
you may never recover the loss.

Approach each bridge with caution
and, if the crossing becomes too rough,
reach out for help when it's offered,
you don't have to make out you're tough.

Burnt bridges do damage to others,
forming barriers to retreat;
burning hands which may have helped you,
leads ultimately to defeat.
