Native Americans - Part 3
The Spanish were the first,
they duped and killed our braves.
Ongoing what was worst,
they took many of us slaves.
The French had their own cause,
and so many couldn't wait.
They'd steal or marry squaws,
interbreeding was their fate.
The British were a band,
with words so fair and fine.
All they wanted was the land,
but too late we saw the sign.
To north shores Russians came,
where massacres took place.
To the tundra they laid claim,
and near destroyed a race.
For 200 years and more,
our lifestyle we defended.
When paleface reached our shore,
starting friendly, each pretended.
'You are a blessing' they'd say,
hospitality was given .
Then they'd have their way,
and take away our livin'
Every time we offered food,
and help to those who came.
We believed all men were good,
until the lands they'd claim.
Integration we had tried,
for stranger's company we'd fall.
'There's enough for all.' we cried,
but unanswered went our call.
Abused throughout the years,
we adapted as they came.
So few treated us as peers,
we not different – we're the same.
The 'Iron Horse' appeared,
with signals made of smoke.
For it's tracks land was cleared,
of this many of us spoke.
Next up was something strange,
the paleface fought each other.
How could normal men arrange,
that brother should fight brother?
In whatever state we'd live,
we'd work for 'blue' or 'grey'.
Our allegiance we would give,
our white fathers come what may.
When their Civil War was done,
a United States then thrived.
There was frontier still not won,
so to do this they contrived.
As our hunting lands reduced,
and tribes from home were flung.
All our peoples' then deduced,
the paleface had forked-tongue.
To an Indian Reservation,
brilliant beginnings planned.
Another white creation,
we were 'allocated' land
to be continued...
