Last Day Of Summer

Impatiently she heads on to the door
She feels the call this evening of the shore
The place she goes for tranquility
It does for her just what it does for me

Twas morning when she'd looked at the wall
She hung her calendar there yet hardly looked at all
Could not believe her eyes; she felt sadness too well
Another summer today would pass; she felt frail

She grabbed the sweater hanging by the door
As she headed down to her beloved shore
Heart beating ; remembering so many memories
Thinking would you play them once more for me

She heard the melodies of years gone by
Had to wipe the tears for yes...she cried
Stopped the car not too far away
Walking to the surf ... the ending of the day

Not just the ending of the day but a new start
The last day of summer; seemed to stab her heart
Tomorrow would be fall and new beginnings
Would she once again see Summer or was it ending

Wind blowing hair ... seeing waves crashing to shore
How many times, she sighed, had she done this before
Oh so many times she could never even count
Wondering what it even mattered ... the amount

She walked close to the water so the waves
Could touch her feet; she stops to pray
Leaving footprints in the sands of time
Knowing that in her heart she calls this .. mine

Seagulls squawking as they fly nearby
Feeling such love and sadness with goodbye
Sun setting so beautiful to get to see
Moon soon will shower beach in sheer mystery

She turns to walk back to her car ... one more time
She has to turn around and sighs, yes this is mine
Wonders once again will she do this next year
Wishing on a star she walks on brushing away a tear

Communing with God o'er she heads home......
