Candlelight

In the quiet of the evening,
When the busy day is through.
I thank the Lord for all my blessings,
And for the memory of you.
***
I rock too and fro in the porch swing.
A singer on the radio begins to croon.
And high atop the maple tree
Is just a slice of the moon.
***
It's then I light a candle.
In the breeze the flame flickers bright.
Soon it's surrounded by a million moths,
Dancing in the candlelight.
***
We used to sit here in the evening,
And watch the flashing fireflies.
The night was all aglow back then
With the love light in your eyes.
***
The candlelight is burning low now.
Cool night air chills me to the bone.
I'm so glad to have these memories.
With them I don't feel so all alone.
