Mishap on 47th Street

Covered in snow from head to toe.
He walked never looking back.
Not watching where he was going
He ran smack into a old woman
with a huge stack of parcels.
Feeling foolish he extended his hand.
To help her with her things...
Saying he was sorry the snow was falling
heavily and he did not even see her.
She was rather cross and hit him hard
with her umbrella.

I found it rather odd in the middle of Winter
this old woman would even have a umbrella.
It was frosty and cold ~ She was out of control
Perhaps she would have preferred he just walk by
and ignore her instead. But no he stopped
to say he was sorry and she popped him one
right in the head.

He lost his balance and fell to the ground~
Next thing he knew...
Several men had surrounded him.
The old woman had pretended he was about to rob her
Minutes later the police arrived and took him away.
A person has got to wonder ~
does it pay to say You're sorry.
Apparently not in this day and age.
