In The Twinkling Of An Eye

Photobucket

We stood there at the clearing
It was but God and me....
Watching life as it went by
He was there to comfort me

What seemed to me was ages
He said mere specks in time
What here might seem eternity
In Heaven is but sublime

As we stood in the shadows
I saw my father's face
Passing by me much too fast
Could I but take his place

What seemed but mere moments
As God held me ever near
I saw my Mother's precious face
He whispered 'do not fear'

Barely had she passed on by
I looked up again to see
Dear God, it's my only sibling
My brother must leave me?

God said, my child, none is lost
Their pathway's just ahead
Without a breath it seemed to me
My sister-in-law followed where they led

I was the matriarch, oh God
Why, now have you chosen me
Was more than I could understand
I cried out and could not see

His arms around me closer
The mist receding into day
But God had me wait with Him
For there was one more to go away

I saw him in the distance
I screamed, I cried and tried to run
Oh God, take me, take me
Please God, don't take my son!

Many years have passed between
What I had seen pass by
Just as it is written
Life is 'but a twinkling of the eye'

Each time I'm feeling lonely
To the clearing I must go
God is waiting just for me
This I always know

You, too, shall see things happen
And the timing will seem strange
Just know that God is there for you
You just must call out His name

We come to earth predestined
God has it all in His plan
Put your everlasting trust in Him
Tis only He that understands

He will see you through the times
You think you cannot suffer through
That's because beloved your in Him
And He is all of you

Dedicated to my mother, Helen Macy Simerly, whose 102nd birthday would have
been today. She lived to 87. No one could have asked for a better mother or a
better example as to what a woman and a mother should be. I love you Mama.
