This Old House

This old gabled house,
A grand lady in its day
Was once filled with love
And laughter.
It stands empty now
Wasting away.
Sadly neglected.

Voices from the past
Echo lovingly, longingly.
Throughout its empty rooms.
Like a shipwrecked castaway
So long ago rejected.

Its structure slowly deteriorating,
Is unsafe for habitation.
This welcoming haven
Has stood gracefully, for many years,
With pride and celebration.

This painted lady will soon be gone,
Erased from time, every hinge and lock.
Oh , the grand tales it could tell,
Of love and life and laughter.
If these walls could talk.
