Shattered With Hope

Everything had been normal this one January day
But as the evening had drawn near the ground shook
The country of Haiti and it's poorest of all people
Lost everything in forty seconds, that's all it took

Pandemonium and mayhem of unfathomable measures
Destruction far beyond anyone's wildest dreams
Dazed and confused, walking amongst the rubble
The ones that could began seeking out the screams

Numbers buried live 'neath tons of waste and ruin
Next to dead and mangled bodies, in wait, they lie
While the others who were a little more fortunate
Dug with their bare hands so more wouldn't die

With no water, no homes, and no where to go
The panic in the streets reaching a perilous height
For this land with so many so sick beforehand
Was rendered helplessly frantic and full of fright

Yet through the turmoil, like a heavenly choir of angels
You can hear a most enthralling and beauteous sound
Singing songs of praise and prayer to Our Lord Jesus
The survivors, in small groups huddled on the ground

These people of God's creation have mustered hope
To imagine through all their tragedies, grief and despair
Herald in glorious testament to the promise from God
'Do not fear for I shall be there'

Let us all remember the people of Haiti in our prayers!
