You Gave Me Life

Being raised with criticism and anger
Is a fearful thing
You never really know
Quite where you stand
You never really know
If you are alright
Or, if you are good enough

Anger crushes your spirit
And crashes your soul
To the point
Where you become
A non-effectual
Sojourner
Afraid to trust
Afraid to try and
Afraid to love

My answer came
In a flood of light
To my weary soul
Just when I thought
There was no way out
No way back
Or, no way in

You came to me
You lifted me
Out of the mire
Out of he pit
Out of he nightmare
I was living in

You loved me
Though I had hurt
Though I was hurt
You loved me
For,
Love is Who You Are

You set me on a
Mountaintop
You gave me assurance
That I could go on
That I could be free
That I could live
In spite of
My trials
And tribulations

You gave me life
