The Vampires Awakening

I pop open my eyes after nearly a year,
With the hunger gnawing deep inside.
The sun has set, now nothing to fear,
Embracing life, without my darkened bride.

I push upon the door upon my crypt,
And the hunger clouds over all that I think,
All of the mortals blood that I have sipped,
I know that is now what I must drink.

I hear a dog barking close to the cemetery,
Just beyond the wrought iron gate.
At the risk of sounding quite contrary,
That is like canned food upon a plate.

As I take my appetizer quick and swift,
Just to regain my strength lost to slumber.
The memories of the humans I have had,
Are far too many to number.

I race off unto the darkening night,
With all of my regained vampiric speed.
Looking for an object to fill me with delight,
Or at least to quench my growing need.

From a rooftop I scan the busy street,
Listening to the sounds of the city at dusk.
The music from the clubs, and shuffle of the feet,
The commuters yelling as they are brusque.

Finally I spy the woman walking all alone,
A beauty that makes me drunk with her charm.
Her scent is like that I have never known,
Making me anxious and filling me with alarm.

She walk beside the building on which I stand,
My precious little gem of a find,
Off the building I leap, silently I land,
Only a mere step or two behind.

I take her in my grasp and plunge my teeth,
Only a moan in pleasure or was it pain?
Gorging myself upon her crimson sweet relief,
Leaving only her memory to remain.
