I Wish

I wish I were satisfied with
what I create
but there is always
a line or two
that will, my sensibilities,
momentarily grate
But I still send them
out to you.
Some will find fans, others
will just fall flat.
One mind can only
say so much.
You never have to guess
just where I’m at
as we virtually reach
out to touch.
When the subject is love
I try to keep it real
because reality’s love
can be felt.
It’s not all zesty and full
of passion’s zeal,
love on hiatus leaves
an unseen welt.
Responding to challenges
surely tests us all
whether the starter is a
theme or phrase.
If you’re at all like me you
can’t resist the call
saying it for yourself,
not for the praise.
Many believe that I am married
to Miss Rhyme
and for the most part
they’d be right.
I write in lyrical prose style
from time to time
if the subject matter requires
it to be tight.
I wish I was capable of writing
a novel that might
snatch the reader out of
lingering doldrums.
The fact remains that when I
sit down to write
another poem, of sorts,
naturally comes.
