A Life Filled With Promise

A life filled with promise
Lost on a dusty desert floor
Killed in the line of duty
How can this be right?

Right or wrong, a tragedy
A young man taken away
From his loved ones
How is this fair?

Fair they treat the prisoner
Who'd stab them in the back
If given a single chance
He would kill!

Kill or be killed, is the mind-set
Of these God fearing men
Forced to live with their conscience
Forever!

Forever is a long time
To live with all the nightmares
That eliminate peaceful slumber
How do they rest?

Rest assured they do not
They die a little inside each night
When memories are so vivid
They'd taken a life!

A life filled with promise
Killed or not, it's almost the same
For all the anguish and misery
How can this be right?
