come unto me

'come unto me' the statue read
the words a promise seemed
the poor, the weary, so she said,
will find the home they dreamed.
from far away we all have come
and many nations we are from
from far away
from far away
but now the lady's stricken dumb.

'come unto me' the words in red
believed from jesus lips
to children, sinners, all who dread
on mountains or from ships
his lessons spoke to whom would hear
and many came from far and near
his lessons spoke
his lessons spoke
but now his church spreads hate and fear.

'come unto me' the spirit said
'come live in love and truth.
take peace into your mind instead
of clamor. - from your youth,
my simple words you have been told
their secret wisdoms to behold
my simple words
my simple words
now make these yours. be true and bold!'
