Aubade for My Love

I've no wish to leave this haven
or you, my love, my wife;
yet I have this obligation
to make a decent life.

It would be easy dear to stay
for our love is pure enjoyment
but now our child you're bearing
and I must find some employment.

I lie and watch you sleeping, love,
contentment in your dreamy smile.
It would be easy dear to stay,
to hold you close for just a while.

When the rooster crows I leave here,
cannot bear to say goodbye.
I'll be gone when you awaken,
before the sun's orb crests the sky.

You chuckle as you're dreaming;
it would be easy, dear, to stay.
My heart is saddened dreadfully
but I can see no other way.

I hate this cruel deception,
my behaviour's very poor.
If you knew, you'd slay the rooster,
then bolt and bar the door.

You are strong, my lovely lady,
you'll be fine while I'm away.
I see the sky grows light now
...it would be easy, dear, to stay.
