Chapter And Verse

Within the pages of these books,
Great adventures await me.
I can step into the pages
And be anyone I choose to be.

I daydream of being fair Lily.
A heroine of sorts.
Or might I be the villain,
A chap of dastardly reports.

Should I choose to be the suitor,
To win my lady's hand?
Or much simpler still,
The ordinary man

When there are no more choices,
The adventure's done, finis.
I'll quickly close the covers,
Happy to be me.

Is it on to the next adventure,
Or a subject that 's more dear to me?
I'll Immerse myself in homespun verse.
Edgar Guest's poetry.
