Sincere Wishes, Gentle Promises

How I wish I could give to you
A world where every single wish comes true,
So you'd never know what pain and sorrow are,
Because it hurts so very much
Whenever I know your heart is broken
And your dreams have passed you by

How I wish I could give to you
A world where it's physically impossible
For any bad thing ever to happen;
There would be no need for restrictions
And you could live your life
Without fear of consequences

But all I can give to you
Is my promise to love and comfort you
Whenever life defeats you
All I can give to you
Is my promise of gentle instruction
That you may learn from your mistakes

Sincerely do I wish I could give you perfection,
But my promise of gentle love is all I can give
Sincerely do I wish so much for you,
And my gentle promise of love and comfort
Is the only way I could ever bear
To see you so unhappy
