The Greatest Love

I will reveal to you a love potion,
without medicine, without herbs,
without any witch's magic;
if you want to be loved, then love.
Hecaton of Rhodes.

Profound words of wisdom...
who needs magic, who needs potions,
who needs medicine or herbs,
or such week-minded puerile notions?

True love can neither be arranged
nor assigned by appointment...
those who employ such doubtful methods
are surely doomed to disappointment.

The greatest love of all is given,
unlimited, spontaneous,
unconcerned with mere appearances
which are only subcutaneous.

Love, based on giving all of self,
without strings, gratis, free,
which warms the core of human hearts
that they might bless-ed be.

A love inspired by the gift,
when all is said and done,
this greatest treasure known to man,
God's own beloved Son.

The gift that we may be forgiven,
with nails upon the cross was driven.
