Get Rid Of The Advertisements

JUST BEFORE DAWN

I don’t know what it was that woke me,
some sound, just before the dawn.
I listened in the darkness,
then got up and put my slippers on,
checked the door and my apartment,
there was nothing that seemed wrong
but for awhile I stood there,
looking out the window, staring at the dark.
Moonlight danced on the river.
In the distance a dog barked.
I wondered, though nothing really seemed amiss
as I watched the night depart,
watched the darkness slowly fading,
as soft light touch the eastern sky,
as stars winked and blinked and vanished,
closing their weary eyes
after a cold, long night watch
and it seemed just God and I
were standing in the darkness
watching the night depart
as a gratefulness engulfed me
and a song filled up my heart,
a song of joy and gladness
as I watched this new day start.

I gazed at the hills beyond the village
as light began to filter through the trees
and seemed to give a sparkle
to the early autumn leaves,
and the early sky a rosy blush,
a halo of gold around some clouds;
and a hush, quiet beauty settled in
on dawn so gloriously endowed
with God’s early morning blessings
that seemed to on me shower down.
What a lovely way to start a day
with just God and me around.

I said, “Thank You, Lord for waking me
so I could see this dawn.
It must have been You waking me
since there is nothing seems to be wrong.
All seems peaceful and quiet,
no danger lurking ‘round
and all I see is wonder
and hear only gentle sounds
in this wee, early morning hour,
these moments just before the dawn.
I love waking up to see
You turn the daylight on.

Help me to walk, Lord, in Your light.
Thank You for this new day.
Help me to be Your faithful child
in all I do and say…
And I watched the darkness disappear
and the sun light up the sky
as I stood there by the window
this dawn, just God and I.
