Of All The Colours

Of all the colours God has made,
I love the pretty yellow shade,
the colour of canary wings,
of baby ducks and fluffy things.
I think He must have spilt the sun
upon the darlings, every one.

This verse learned in my childhood,
I know not of its source,
though there it's lodged with Humpty Dumpty
and Three Blind Mice of course.

Picture butterflies and buttercups,
bees on bright sunflowers,
stashing pollen in leg baskets
for hours on golden hours.

Miles of golden, crunchy sand
upon a crowded beach
with rows of gaily hued umbrellas
where the waves are out of reach.

Little girls with dandelions
making fourteen carat chains,
golden necklaces and bangles,
golden crowns on long blonde manes.

And yes, those darling ducklings,
the little fluffy things,
making cheeping, peeping noises,
flapping tiny wings.
