Mama Mary
Lived in the canyon
Always kept a log-burnin'-glow
In the fireplace
Seems it's time
For me to wake up again...
Brisk morning memories
Of a fond friend
Many nights singing
On the beach in a circle
People gathered 'round
Who knows where they came from
Always a place in her heart
For a stray one
And in her midst
There was always a song
Keeping the peace and the plenty
Her purpose
Her rosy red cheeks
Always shined when she'd smile
Which was often I'll tell you
She was always around
With her long silky hair
She was woman...yet child
Mama Mary
Lived in the canyon
Always kept a log-burnin'-glow
In the fireplace
Seems it's time
For me to wake up again...
Brisk morning memories
Of a fond friend
I remember...
I took my woman there
To warm her weary body
And...
I took myself there
To soothe my searching heart
Took many a friend there
For strength and compassion
Oh Mama Mary
We're never far apart
For you're always inside me
Sometimes rushing through my mind
Like the breeze did in the canyon
Through the trees often times
And you're still up in that canyon
To this day... or so I hear
And whenever I think of the good-old-days
Or hear 'Twelve Thirty'
I know you're near
Mama Mary
Lived in the canyon
Always kept a log-burnin'-glow
In the fireplace
Seems it's time
For me to wake up again...
Brisk morning memories
Of a fond friend
2.
Yes...
Mama Mary live in Topanga
The canyon with the Canned Heat
Her Topanga Lane poured into the ocean
Where our bonfires and music
Occurred nightly on the beach
And right behind Mary's house
Was Mona's little loft
It had quite a reputation
With its feather down so soft
Every hippy boy dreamed of it
And Mona's magic touch
But she was quite the picky one
And didn't chatter much
Her mistique was quite well known
Around the bonfire circle
Where all the hippies from the canyon
Came at night to mingle
It was at that bonfire...
One summer night
I first met Mona
All dressed in white
With her long, flowing, wind-blown hair
Bronze skin..
And brown eyes that would stare
I'd heard about her loft
And her bed to the open sky
I dreamed about her often
Knew I'd love to give it a try
And then she invited me...
'Come up for some tea,' she said
We'll burn some franjipani incense
And climb into my sky bed...

~ MONA ~
Let's make love in your loft
...Mona
Let's make love in your loft
Situated just yards from the beach
In a woody glen along the creek
On the canyon floor
Your enchanted cottage awaits
You took me there
When the moon was full
And the fire raged high
On the roaring shore
When we drank some wine
And were feeling fine
You said, 'Come
Let me show you my secret hideaway'
Let's make love in your loft
...Mona
Let's make love in your loft
In the back
Was your room
Where your ladder led
To your feather bed
With its goose-down quilt
Arranged high on stilts
Up we climbed
As the excitement grew
You showed me a rope
And you told me to pull
So I did...
And the roof parted away
revealing naked night, starlit
And we made love
As the canyon breeze blew
Under the summer's full moon
Take me back...
To that wooded glen
To the enchanted cottage
That I knew then
And you within
With your long brown hair
And your sun-bronzed skin
Take me back again
Let's make love in your loft
...Mona
Let's make love in your loft
At the bottom of the canyon
Where the ocean meets the mountains
and your downey covers touch the sky
In your soft feather bed...
While I watch the clouds roll by
