Old Haunted House

I grew up near an old house, long abandoned and lost,
We knew not the circumstances, the reasons or cost,
As kids we made up the stories, and told,
Of the horrors that took place there, in times of old,
We would dare each other, who was the bravest,
And scare ourselves with fears of the gravest,

Then in our teens, we became a little bolder,
We forgot those childhood fears, heck we were older,
So we would go in the old house as sure as we might,
We weren’t scared of things that go bump in the night,
Are you afraid of the dead? We would ask as we crept,
listening to the creeks and moans of the house as it slept,

Then one Halloween we planned to spend the night,
like brave kids will do,
We were tough and strong, but nobody else knew,
So we rolled out our sleeping bags on the old wooden floor,
We covered the windows, and barred all the doors,
All was just fine, till the storm clouds rolled in,
And lightning and thunder crashed around us like sin,

Then from somewhere we heard a loud scream through the rain,
A banging of shutters and the rattling of chains,
We looked at each other and swore with an oath,
Nobody would get us, there’s no such thing as ghosts,
But in a broken old mirror, we saw in a flash,
Of lightning, the image of a spirit from the past,
An old woman crying, and coming toward us,
We were frozen there staring, at the blood on her dress,
She was whispering something, Oh, we were scared no doubt,
Then a booming voice said,

“THIS IS MY HOUSE, GET OUT”

We ran for the door in the dark of the night,
The four of us thought we would die of pure fright,
But the old house had plans for the trespassers we,
We fell through the floorboards as we tried to flee,
In a pile of kids in the black and the gloom,
Four brave tough young men thought they'd met their doom,

As the storm raged on we searched all around,
And realized we had landed under the house on the ground,
We crawled out from under like a bat-outa-hell,
Nobody believed this frightening story we would tell,
But one thing I will remember, though it’s not what I wanted,
I promise you this; “That old house was haunted”.
