That Bridge

A hammer and three nails it took
to erect a bridge of pardon,
that man might reach across the gap
so the Father's heart not harden.

To erect a bridge of pardon
there on sad, bare Golgotha Hill,
our Lord and Saviour had to die,
the blood of the Lamb had to spill.

That man might reach across the gap
twixt hurt feelings and forgiving.
God's love can build a bridge, you know,
to span between death and living.

So the Father's heart not harden,
we accept His Son's sacrifice;
with joy, with faith and assurance
that our Saviour has paid the price.
