Holiday memories

There are many cherished childhood Christmas's I remember
How our family would look for a real tree sometime in December

To my sister and I that was always such a wonderful delight
How we all tried to pick a Christmas tree that was just right

When we found the right one, dad would always put it in the car
Each year for the tree, my grandma sister and I would make a star

We would get it home and decorate it with lights that beautifully shine
In the living room from the tree there was the delightful aroma of pine

We would all sit around telling stories and singing songs around the tree
As a young child, I would cuddle up with my grandma falling asleep sitting on her knee

On Christmas day my sister and I would rush and open our gifts with a bow
Each year there seemed to always be so much delightful and wonderful snow

Mama would cook turkey and plenty of food for us Christmas day
I can still recall these memories just like it was yesterday

My mamas turkey and gravy was such a delightful treat
And those delicious candy canes we put in the tree so sweet

There was always a delightful aroma of the gingerbread cookies we made
Putting red satin bows in my hair that my grandma each year would braid

We would light a candle joining hands and saying a prayer
The delightful sounds of Christmas and carols always filled the air
