Mirrored Honesty

Getting to know your mind and your heart,
honesty with self is so hard to maintain.
Progressing slowly from the place where you start,
balancing each crushing defeat with a gain.

Knowing what that mirror is showing thee,
not adding colors that don’t really exist.
Allowing the child remaining there to be free,
the one that’s much to shy to be kissed.

Listening to the brash assessments of others,
weeding the gems from the paste crafted stuff.
Over-analysis certainly stifles and smothers
the finite ability to judge a pan from a puff.

Can’t kid yourself, the game wouldn’t play true,
self-aggrandizing is both shallow and crass.
Denying reality, as if you don’t have a clue,
tantamount to blowing smoke up your own ass.

Keeping it loose as you’re keeping it real
frees you up to be able to give to another.
Don’t run so scared from emotion you feel,
pain and joy can often balance each other.
