I’ve known you dear, through many wondrous seasons,
learned to see the love-light in your eyes;
when springtime indicated many reasons
for birds and bees to hum and harmonise.
I knew you when bright summer left us smiling
at antics of those geckoes on the roof.
I clipped your hair too close, attempting styling
to discover laughter made us temper-proof.
Through Autumn's mellow fruitfulness I’ve known you;
our long jaunts through the park, me on my scooter.
When trouble came and others would disown you,
to me you are the same…or maybe cuter.
In winter when arthritis grabbed our ankles,
I knew that I was old, ‘mongst other things;
but no matter how the aging factor rankles,
before another year, we’ll exchange rings.
Whatever season comes around in turn,
we’ll share all tears, the joys as we are blessed.
And though we’re aged, it’s not too late to learn;
when love’s there waiting for you, home is best.
