It's me, Daddy

Lonesome and lost in a wilderness bare,
Alone in his mind he wanders,
His memory's gone, yet he still knows,
Though what it is, he fearfully ponders,

His life was full and rewarding with,
A family that he loved so dear,
But try as he might, it's all blurry now,
With flashes now and then that are clear,

He sees her beautiful smiling face,
When she comes to visit him there,
But most of the time he doesn't know,
Who she is or why she would care,

She holds his hand and whispers;
“It's me Daddy” as tears fill her eyes,
He stares at her, but there is nobody,
Yet he squeezes her hand when she cries,

His body has given up and he's ready,
For there is nothing here left to say,
So he waits for the day he takes his last breath,
And his suffering and pain goes away,

On that day his eyes seem bright and clear,
Though she knows his time is due,
Then the tears flow free when he says; “Who is it?”
She says: “It's me Daddy,
'I'll miss you”
