Today Versus Yesterday

There was no air conditioning back in the day
No dryers with fluff cycles to take wrinkles away
Weren't any laundromats where you have to pay
We'd wringer washing machines, no time for play
Life seemed a bit harder in just a few minute ways
Yet, we had such a grand time in the good old days

The biggest difference since then, it seems to me
Has been the downfall and loss of loyalty to family
Keeping in touch with members of the family tree
Back in the good old days that's all it seemed to be
Family reunions in pretty parks were held annually
We had so much fun, everyone seemed so happy

I can remember when all children showed respect
But now, about that, I will sit in wonder and reflect
Today every parent grows leery and circumspect
As disciplining their children gives cause to inspect
And leaves them with absolutely no way to affect
Their children in theory of a right or wrong aspect

The kids today don't want to listen to what we say
They have no idea the fun it is to go out and play
Nor to lay at night counting stars in the Milky Way
They think playing video games all day is A-okay
And the more violent the better, we need to pray
Dear Lord, let us return to those good old days
Just for the Love of It THEME Challenge
