Sweethearts

As children my husband and I lived next door to each other
Being childhood sweethearts going places with one another

I remember so clear and wonderfully our very first date
It was something at the time that we could hardly wait

It was close to valentines day and at school they were having a dance
Before he asked me to go. He was blushing like he had ants in his pants

Then he asked me if I would be his date for the school dance for Valentines day
I was so shy but when I said yes, he blushed so red and didn't know what to say

We got to the school dance later on and he gave me a beautiful red rose
Both of giggling and enjoying being together. He blushed and kissed my nose

He helped me put on a flower corsage that said I love you on a satin red bow
That wonderful year as children he taught me how to dance to music so slow

I was so shy and so was he that half the time I stepped accidently stepped on his feet
Let me tell you I remember he leaned over and kissed me and wow was that so sweet

We have been happily married for many years and our love is so deeply strong
And to think that it began with that first date as children dancing to our love song

That year for Valentines day it was then that I knew we were together meant to be
It was from that very moment when he first danced and shyly kissed me

I eventually married and am happily married for many years to my beautiful soulmate
I knew from the moment that we were meant to be together on our very first date

My beautiful soulmate and love you grow more beautiful to me today
You are so beautiful as the day we danced together as kids that Valentines day

I love you dearly with all my heart and soul also to
Come take my hand in yours. Let me kiss and slow dance with you
