The New Land

My Dearest,
When we met so long ago,
You swept me off my feet,
You wooed me with a vengeance,
'Til your conquest was complete.
We grew to share an endless love,
Our two hearts intertwined.
Two lovers holding fast,
Everlasting love defined.
I was your muse, your soul-mate,
For whom you’d searched in vain,
And when the stress of life o’erwhelmed,
I helped to ease your pain.
But then somehow along the way,
We grew so far apart,
That another came along
Who tried to steal your heart.
Discovering your emails and
The sonnets you had written,
Led me to fully comprehend
How deeply you were smitten.
My heart was rent, my spirit gone,
How would I survive?
To know you loved another,
Whom you wanted by your side.
A pall hung heavy in my heart
My tears flowed morn and night.
Such sorrow and anxiety
Made me wish to quit this fight.
But by God’s grace I’ve made it though,
And see the man I love,
With joy, returning to my arms.
God’s blessing from above.
I don’t know what the future holds
As we reconnect, hand-in-hand,
But I pray the Lord will guide us
To a promising New Land.
