A Soldier's Talk With God

Lord, could I speak with you
I know you're busy with all you do
If you could make time for me today
Because I am too busy fighting to pray

I am a soldier and I love my land
I love my life, it could be most grand
But when I have to put a gun in my hand
I then have to question who in the world I am

Not true to myself nor true to You
So confused I don't know what to do
I do not enjoy taking another man's life
Or knowing I am filling his family with strife

This man could even be a friend
If all of these wars would simply end
Though I am a man I cry myself to sleep
Worried another man may hear me weep

Crying is a weakness I cannot afford
Time to dry tears, well you know the score
I must keep focused with my eye on the prize
The only problem is, it's another man in disguise

If I have to fight, I need a good reason
I am sitting like a duck in hunting season
Fighting for a cause that eludes my senses
For all intents and purposes, false pretenses

I don't believe this is what you want
For us to live with memories that haunt
I have faith in you! You can make this cease!
Grant us redemptive lives! God grant us peace!
